We are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel for school and I for one am ready for a little break! Georgia will be finishing her US History course readings today with her final exam being one day next week. The only core course she is still working on is English 3. Tied into that is her composition and she has worked hard on an expository essay this week.
Savannah has been doing much better with her math and finally made it to exponents, dividing fractions, equivalent fractions, GCF and LCM. We continued with our history readings and have discussed the location of the levees that were blown up around Cairo, IL (pronounced KAY-ro). While reading Minn of the Mississippi, we learned a little about this town on the Mississippi River. It was a pleasant surprise that Savannah was able to discuss the possible outcomes if the levee had not been demolished and the results to the farmers and homes that were lost due to the demolition. She made connections to our own farming background that I didn't expect.
As a side note, Juliana has begun taking her final exams for the end of her freshman year of college. If all goes well, she should finish this semester with mostly A's. She has worked so hard and is ready for a break from studying as well.
This week I am thankful for...
- beautiful peonies
- active dogs
- the Ambleside Online curriculum list and Yahoo groups
- warm sunshine
- completed essays
