"I sing the goodness of the Lord, that filled the earth with food;
He formed the creatures with His word, and then pronounced them good.
Lord, how Thy wonders are displayed, where e're I turn my eye;
If I survey the ground I tread, or gaze upon the sky."

Hymn Thoughts

Today I read the words to a hymn by William Cowper in Robert J. Morgan's book Then Sings My Soul called "God Moves in a Mysterious Way".  My thoughts immediately went to all the devastation caused by the storms of this past week.  I don't pretend to understand all that families are going through as they seek to put homes and towns back together, but I do know that they are not alone in their efforts.  I pray that in some way they will see the love of the Savior as people minister to them in this time of need.
I found the following arrangement of the hymn and I think it may be a new song for us to sing as a family.

Morgan ends his devotional on the life of William Cowper as follows: "...one of Cowper's lesser-known poems would make a fitting epitaph:"

Sometimes a light surprises the Christian while he sings;
It is the Lord, who rises with healing in His wings:

When comforts are declining, He grants the soul again
A season of clear shining, to cheer it after rain.

In holy contemplation we sweetly then pursue
The theme of God’s salvation, and find it ever new.

Set free from present sorrow, we cheerfully can say,
Let the unknown tomorrow bring with it what it may.

It can bring with it nothing but He will bear us through;
Who gives the lilies clothing will clothe His people, too;

Beneath the spreading heavens, no creature but is fed;
And He Who feeds the ravens will give His children bread.

Though vine nor fig tree neither their wonted fruit should bear,
Though all the field should wither, nor flocks nor herds be there;

Yet God the same abiding, His praise shall tune my voice,
For while in Him confiding, I cannot but rejoice.

Have a blessed day!
